Troubleshooting a Toshiba P200-RT2 Webcam

Most new laptops come with an internal webcam.

The Toshiba P200-RT2 is a laptop with a built-in webcam. Unlike external webcams that can suffer from a loose connection or frayed cord, troubleshooting an internal webcam is more difficult. Depending on when and where the Toshiba P200-RT2 was purchased, it may still be under warranty. Internal webcam issues, if they are not with the hardware are usually related to a corrupted driver. Updating the system drivers can usually fix such issues.

Diagnose the problem. Is the camera physically damaged? Does the webcam work with some applications and not others? Does the video display at reduced quality? Does the power light for the camera come on but video does not display? The answers to these questions can help determine what the problem is. For example, a physically damaged camera may need to be replaced.

Turn off the Toshiba P200-RT2. Wait one minute and turn it back on. Occasionally a system error can cause the laptops camera to malfunction and a complete power down is necessary to get the camera up and running again.

Visit Toshibas website, download and install the latest drivers for the webcam. Other programs and system changes can damage the drivers for the webcam. If this occurs the drivers will need to be re-installed. In addition, system updates can render the old drivers inoperable. A newer version of the driver will be required to restore webcam functioning. By downloading the latest drivers from Toshiba, the user solves both problems.
